ALBINO

Bled pale as veal,
like Scandinavians left out in the sun
to bleach, with a faint blush of the scalp,
cheek and lips –
blood mixed into milk.

Translucent Canova.

Around our melanin,
they somewhat otherworldly.
Careful as vampires of sunlight,
but don’t have pink eyes
like lab rats and pet rabbits
instead, furtive violet zircon.

Their hair is the most striking thing:
bone and silver.
Their eyelashes, eyebrows:
frosted cornsilk.

Yes, it’s absolutely objectification
ableism,
but that’s poetry for you.
